News : Internet Bids Farewell to “.um”12-2-2007
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has decided to eliminate “.um” from the list of internet domain names. The “.um” domain was originally allocated to minor islands off the US. Larger territories such as Guam (“.gu”) and the US Virgin Islands (“.vi”) will retain their domain names. The list of domain names now stands at 264, which includes new additions “.eu” for Europe and “.travel” for the travel industry. A proposal for an “.xxx” domain name for an online red-light district is currently under review.
